What Is Numerology? Complete Beginner's Guide
Numerology is the study of the meaning of numbers in a person's life. It works from two things you already have: your date of birth and your name.
Numerology in one paragraph
Numerology holds that each number from 1 to 9 has a character of its own. Your date of birth and your name can be turned into numbers, and those numbers describe your nature, your direction in life and the kind of choices that suit you. Because the name can change and the date cannot, numerology also gives you something practical to act on.
Where numerology comes from
Number meanings appear in many ancient traditions. The system known as Pythagorean numerology is named after the Greek mathematician Pythagoras. Chaldean numerology traces back to ancient Babylon. In India, numerology developed alongside astrology, with each number linked to one of the nine planets. Modern Indian numerology draws on all three.
The core numbers
Mulank (birth day number). The day you were born, reduced to a single digit. Born on the 25th? 2 + 5 = 7.
Bhagyank (life path number). Every digit of your date of birth added together and reduced. For 25-06-1992: 2+5+0+6+1+9+9+2 = 34, and 3 + 4 = 7.
Name number. The letters of your name converted into numbers and added.
Lo Shu grid. The digits of your date of birth placed in a 3x3 square to show strong and missing numbers.
Personal year. Your day and month of birth added to the current year, which shows what the year favours.

What numerology is not
Numerology does not fix your fate or replace effort. It describes tendencies and offers small, practical adjustments. It works best as one input alongside your own judgement and advice from qualified professionals.
