How to Calculate Your Name Number
Your name number comes from adding the values of the letters in your name. In Indian name correction, the Chaldean chart is the one most often used.
The Chaldean letter chart

There is no 9 in the Chaldean chart. Traditionally 9 is considered sacred and is not assigned to any letter, though a name can still total 9.
The method
- Write the name exactly as you use it.
- Give each letter its Chaldean value.
- Add the first name and the surname separately, then together.
- Keep the two-digit total (the compound number) and reduce it to a single digit.
Worked example: Rahul Verma
RAHUL: R 2 + A 1 + H 5 + U 6 + L 3 = 17
VERMA: V 6 + E 5 + R 2 + M 4 + A 1 = 18
Total: 17 + 18 = 35, and 3 + 5 = 8
The compound number is 35 and the name number is 8.
Why the compound number matters
Two names can both reduce to 8, one from 35 and one from 26. In Chaldean numerology, compound numbers carry their own meanings, so a numerologist reads both. This is one reason name correction needs more than a calculator.
