How to Calculate Your Life Path Number

Your life path number is the sum of every digit in your date of birth, reduced to a single digit. Here is how to calculate it, with worked examples.

The method

  1. Write your date of birth as DD-MM-YYYY.
  2. Add every digit.
  3. If the total has two digits, add them together.
  4. Repeat until you have a single digit, unless the total is 11, 22 or 33.

Example 1: 5 January 1992

05-01-1992: 0 + 5 + 0 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 27
27: 2 + 7 = 9

Life path number 9.

Example 2: a master number 11

29-07-1973: 2 + 9 + 0 + 7 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 3 = 38
38: 3 + 8 = 11

Eleven is a master number. It is read as 11/2: the qualities of 2 with the added intensity of 11.

Example 3: a master number 22

01-02-1990: 0 + 1 + 0 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 22

Read as 22/4.

Example 4: a master number 33

15-08-1990: 1 + 5 + 0 + 8 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 33

Read as 33/6.

Another method gives the same result

Some people reduce the day, month and year separately and then add them. For 05-01-1992: day 5, month 1, year 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21 and 2 + 1 = 3. Then 5 + 1 + 3 = 9. The answer is the same. Adding all digits at once is simpler and avoids mistakes.

Life path number and Bhagyank

In Indian numerology the life path number is called the Bhagyank. In the Lo Shu grid the single digit is used, so 11 counts as 2.

The grid uses every non-zero digit of the date, plus the Bhagyank, plus the Mulank when the birth day is 10 or more. Schools differ on this; a consultation reads the full chart with your name.
