Vedic numerology, also called Indian numerology, reads your Mulank, Bhagyank and Namank through the nine planets of Indian astrology.
The three core numbers in Vedic numerology
- Mulank (psychic number): the day of birth reduced to a single digit. It shows your basic temperament.
- Bhagyank (destiny number): the total of the whole date of birth. It shows the course of life and what you are meant to work through.
- Namank (name number): the total of your name, most often calculated in the Chaldean system. It shows how the world receives you.
Each number is ruled by a graha: 1 Surya, 2 Chandra, 3 Guru, 4 Rahu, 5 Budh, 6 Shukra, 7 Ketu, 8 Shani and 9 Mangal. Friendships and enmities between these grahas decide whether two numbers support each other.

Vedic Numerology: common questions
Is Vedic numerology the same as Chaldean numerology?
Not exactly. Vedic numerology is the Indian framework of Mulank, Bhagyank and planetary rulers. Name numbers within it are usually calculated with the Chaldean chart.
Why do I get different numbers on different websites?
Websites use different letter charts. The Pythagorean and Chaldean systems give different name totals, so always check which system is used.
Can Vedic numerology suggest gemstones?
Gemstones belong to astrology. Numerology remedies focus on names, numbers, dates, colours and habits; any gemstone question is better taken to an astrologer with your full chart.
