The grid uses every non-zero digit of the date, plus the Bhagyank, plus the Mulank when the birth day is 10 or more. Schools differ on this; a consultation reads the full chart with your name.
How marriage compatibility is checked
Each partner's chart is prepared: Mulank, Bhagyank, name number and Lo Shu grid. The two charts are then compared in layers.
Mulank to Mulank shows day-to-day temperament: how the two of you talk, argue and make up. A general guide:

This table follows the natural friendships of the ruling planets in Indian astrology. Different schools give slightly different tables. A consultation reads the Bhagyank, name numbers and missing numbers as well, which often changes the picture.
Bhagyank to Bhagyank shows whether your life directions agree. Two very different directions need conscious support from both sides.
Lo Shu grids side by side show whether each partner fills the other's missing numbers. A partner who has the numbers you lack often balances you well.
Name numbers show how each partner is experienced by the other and by the family.
What the result tells you
You do not get a score out of 36. You get a clear description of where the match is strong, where it needs effort, and what will help. Most matches have both.

How is marriage compatibility by DOB checked?
Both partners' Mulank and Bhagyank are compared, then names and Lo Shu grids. This is the same method as couple compatibility numerology.
